Palm Beach County School Board is authorized to appropriate $360,000 to compensate Ashraf Kamel and Marguerite Dimitri for the wrongful death of their 14-year-old son Jean A. Pierre Kamel on January 27, 1997, who was shot at Conniston Middle School.

Payments shall be made as warrants of $180,000 each to Ashraf Kamel and Marguerite Dimitri for injuries and damages sustained due to the school board's negligence.

The $360,000 settlement, combined with the previously paid $200,000 under Florida statutory liability limits, constitutes sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from the death.

Fee limitations are imposed: attorney fees capped at $68,400, lobbying fees capped at $21,600, and costs and expenses capped at $1,935.66.

The act takes effect upon becoming law and is based on a 2002 jury verdict finding the school board 80 percent liable, which was affirmed on appeal.
