Recognizes Tammy Jerkins as the 2018 Florida Teacher of the Year for her commitment to students, leadership, and advancement of student learning.

Jerkins is a secondary mathematics teacher at Leesburg High School in Lake County with 17 years of classroom experience, 13 of which at Leesburg High School.

She was previously named Lake County Teacher of the Year in 2017 and was selected for the state award on July 13, 2017.

Jerkins provides extensive support to students including tutoring during lunch hours, attending sporting events and performances, organizing school supplies and food drives, and checking on absent students.

As the 2018 Teacher of the Year recipient, Jerkins is serving a one-year term as the Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education representing the Department of Education and teachers across Florida.
