Allows buildings constructed and granted certificates of occupancy before 1965 to have balcony guard openings that permit passage of spheres greater than 4 inches in diameter, provided the openings are less than 42 inches high.

Requires the balcony guard to have been approved as part of the original building design and to be at least 40 inches high.

Limits this exception to buildings designated as historic properties, contributing properties to historic districts, or eligible for local historic property designation under local preservation ordinances.

Supersedes any conflicting provisions in the Florida Fire Prevention Code.

Effective July 1, 2018.
