Authorizes trial courts to order defendants to perform community service or participate in work programs instead of paying fines, as a condition of probation or community control.

Applies only to defendants who are not violent felony offenders of special concern as defined in section 948.06.

Amends section 921.187 to include community service or work program participation as alternatives to fine payment when the offense is punishable by both fine and imprisonment and probation is authorized.

Clarifies that the term "violent felony offender of special concern" applies to sections 903.0351, 921.0024, 948.011, and 948.064 for purposes of determining eligibility for alternative sentencing.

Effective July 1, 2018.
