Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners is authorized to pay Ruth Arizpe $312,546.56 to satisfy a judgment related to injuries sustained from a fall on a Palm Tran bus on February 5, 2015.

The bus driver accelerated abruptly before Ms. Arizpe was seated despite knowing the floor was wet and slippery, causing her to fall and sustain a 3-inch laceration on her right knee, herniated disc, and tendonitis.

Ms. Arizpe incurred $45,150.72 in medical bills with projected future medical costs of $484,198.25 for ongoing surgeries, physical therapy, pain medication, and injection therapy.

The total compensation of $512,546.56 (comprised of $200,000 already paid under state liability limits plus the $312,546.56 authorized by this act) represents full and sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from this incident.

Attorney fees for this matter may not exceed 25 percent of the $312,546.56 amount awarded under this act.
