Department of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, must annually provide school districts with information on establishing school garden programs, including requirements, available state grants, and other resources.

Schools establishing a garden program may designate one day per week for students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch to select and receive produce from the garden, with each program setting its own distribution procedures.

Schools with garden programs are exempted from state laws and rules that prohibit students from receiving or consuming produce grown in school gardens.

Effective July 1, 2018.
