Adds pilots and registered nurses employed by local governments to perform primary duties on licensed air ambulance services to the Special Risk Class of the Florida Retirement System, effective July 1, 2018.

Clarifies that sheriffs and elected police chiefs are not required to meet law enforcement officer certification requirements to qualify for special risk membership.

Renumbers paragraph (j) to (k) in section 121.0515, F.S. to accommodate the new air ambulance pilot and registered nurse category.

Declares that extending retirement protections to state and local government employees and their beneficiaries serves an important state interest and fulfills constitutional requirements for actuarially sound management.

Effective date: July 1, 2018.
