District school boards may now use advanced degrees when setting salary schedules for instructional personnel and school administrators, removing the previous prohibition on considering advanced degrees for employees hired after July 1, 2011

Adoption of a performance salary schedule becomes optional rather than mandatory for district school boards, changing the July 1, 2014 requirement

Instructional personnel on continuing contract or professional service contract may remain on existing salary schedules or opt into the performance salary schedule by relinquishing their contract for annual contract status

Salary supplements for activities such as Title I school assignments, low-performing school assignments, critical shortage area certification, and additional academic responsibilities become optional rather than required
