Smoking tobacco on public beaches in Florida becomes unlawful under new Section 386.2122, Florida Statutes

Violations are civil infractions with a maximum penalty of $25 or 10 hours of community service

Law enforcement officers may issue citations in the form prescribed by the county or municipality where the violation occurs

Citations must include date/time, violator's name and address, statute violated, facts of violation, officer information, and instructions for paying or contesting the penalty

Failure to comply with citation directions results in waiver of the right to contest and allows the court to issue an order to show cause; effective date July 1, 2019
