Prohibits the sale, transfer, and possession of assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition magazines (over 10 rounds) in Florida, effective October 1, 2019

Defines assault weapons to include specific named firearms (AK series, AR series, and dozens of other models) as well as semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns with certain features like detachable magazines, folding stocks, or pistol grips

Allows current owners who possessed weapons before October 1, 2019 to keep them by applying for a certificate of possession by October 1, 2020, with required background check and thumbprint

Establishes criminal penalties including third-degree felony with 2-year mandatory minimum for illegal sale/transfer, and third-degree felony with 1-year mandatory minimum for illegal possession

Increases mandatory minimum sentences to 15-25 years for committing violent felonies while possessing an assault weapon or large-capacity magazine
