Tactical medical professionals (paramedics, physicians, osteopathic physicians) appointed to law enforcement tactical teams may carry firearms in the same manner as law enforcement officers during tactical operations

Eligible professionals must hold an active concealed weapons permit, be appointed by the head of a law enforcement agency, and complete firearms safety and tactical training with annual recertification

Law enforcement agencies must establish written policies for appointment, training, and deployment of tactical medical professionals and must issue all firearms and ammunition carried under this provision

Tactical medical professionals have no duty to retreat during operations and receive the same civil and criminal immunities as law enforcement officers when acting within official duties

Firearms and ammunition may not be carried, transported, or stored on fire apparatus or EMS vehicles; effective date July 1, 2019
