District school boards must provide transportation for students living more than 1.5 miles from school (reduced from 2 miles) and for all K-12 public school students subject to hazardous walking conditions (expanded from K-6 only)

Hazardous walking condition speed thresholds lowered from 50 mph to 45 mph for roads requiring setback walkways and for uncontrolled crossing sites

Uncontrolled road crossings with four or more lanes (reduced from six lanes) now qualify as hazardous walking conditions regardless of speed limit

District school superintendents must request a hazardous walking condition review upon receiving a written request from a parent; previously this was optional

School boards are now required (rather than permitted) to initiate legal proceedings under Chapter 86 when governmental representatives cannot reach consensus on whether a hazardous condition exists
