Amends section 944.17, Florida Statutes to require the Department of Corrections to place inmates within 125 driving miles of their primary residence by July 1, 2022, subject to custody classification, programmatic needs, and mental and medical health needs.

Allows inmates to choose to remain at their current institution or facility instead of being transferred closer to their primary residence.

Exempts inmates with close custody or maximum custody classifications from the proximity requirement.

Effective date is July 1, 2019.
