Members of the Legislature may choose to be accompanied on visits to state correctional institutions by another elected official, an ordained minister, or a member of their staff.

Legislators may meet privately with inmates without interference from correctional institution management or staff, on the same basis as attorneys meeting with clients.

Legislators may carry one cellular telephone during visits to correctional institutions and shall be provided reasonable security.

The bill amends section 944.23, Florida Statutes, which lists persons authorized to visit state prisons at their pleasure.

Effective date is July 1, 2019.
