School Board of Miami-Dade County directed to pay $1.3 million to Jane Doe as compensation for injuries and damages sustained from a violent assault by student Victor Nash in September 2014.

Total settlement amount is $3 million, comprised of $200,000 paid by school board under sovereign immunity cap, $1.5 million paid by insurer, and $1.3 million authorized by this bill.

School board's negligence included reassigning Jane Doe to teach students with emotional and behavioral disorders without required training, failing to notify her that an assigned student had felony threats charges and was deemed permanently incompetent, and enrolling that dangerous student despite knowing his history.

Attorney fees capped at $260,000, lobbying fees capped at $65,000, and other costs capped at $3,084.56 from the $1.3 million award.

Settlement represents sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from the incident; effective upon becoming law.
