North Broward Hospital District authorized to pay $608,554.78 to Charles Pandrea as compensation for the death of his wife Janet Pandrea resulting from a pathologist's misdiagnosis of a benign thymoma as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Janet Pandrea died April 2, 2002, after undergoing chemotherapy based on the misdiagnosis; the district was found 10 percent at fault in a June 2005 jury verdict totaling $8,069,803.50 with final judgment of $808,554.78.

Payment of $608,554.78 represents the remainder of the judgment after the North Broward Hospital District paid the statutory limit of $200,000 under Florida Statutes section 768.28.

Combined statutory payment and legislative appropriation constitute sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from Janet Pandrea's death.

Attorney fees capped at $115,625.41, lobbying fees at $36,513.29, and other costs and expenses at $2,129.81 from the appropriated amount.
