CS/CS/HB 7055 Summary

• Requires a career and education planning course for middle school students (grades 6-8) to promote high school, with each student receiving a personalized academic and career plan.

• Allows computer science credits to satisfy mathematics or science graduation requirements, and allows industry certifications and preapprenticeship program credits to satisfy high school graduation credit requirements.

• Provides students who earn industry certifications but fail to meet other diploma requirements with a "certificate of completion" designating them as "workforce ready," with option to remain in high school up to 1 additional year for remediation.

• Establishes "Academic Scholarship Signing Day" (third Tuesday in April) and "College and Career Decision Day" to recognize student achievement in academic scholarships and postsecondary/career planning.

• Expands adjunct teaching certificates to allow both part-time and full-time teaching positions (limited to 3 years nonrenewable for full-time), and increases number of CAPE Digital Tool certificates from 15 to 30.
