Children awaiting trial who are being prosecuted as adults may not be held in adult jails or detention facilities unless a court determines in writing after a hearing that it is in the interest of justice

Courts must consider seven factors before placing a child in adult detention: age, physical and mental maturity, mental state and self-harm risk, nature of alleged offense, delinquency history, ability of facilities to meet the child's needs and protect public safety, and other relevant factors

If a child is placed in adult detention, courts must hold review hearings every 30 days (or 45 days in rural jurisdictions) to reassess whether continued placement remains in the interest of justice

Children may not be held in adult detention facilities for more than 180 days unless the court finds good cause for extension or the child waives this limitation

Children held in adult facilities must be housed separately from adults with no sight and sound contact, and must be monitored at intervals not exceeding 10 minutes
