Reorders definitions in Florida Statutes section 112.531 by placing "Law enforcement officer" as subsection (1) and "Correctional officer" as subsection (2), previously reversed.

Adds language to clarify that misconduct allegations against law enforcement or correctional officers may originate from any source, regardless of origin.

Establishes a 180-day limitation period for agencies to complete investigations of officer misconduct and provide written notice of intent to pursue disciplinary action.

Specifies six tolling exceptions to the 180-day deadline: written waivers by the officer, pending criminal investigations, officer incapacity or unavailability, multijurisdictional coordination needs, declared state of emergency, and ongoing compliance hearing proceedings.

Takes effect July 1, 2020.
