Personal identifying information of individuals issued certificates of possession for assault weapons or large-capacity ammunition magazines under s. 790.301 is made confidential and exempt from public records requirements

Exempt information may only be disclosed to the Department of Law Enforcement for background checks and to law enforcement agencies conducting criminal or other authorized investigations

The exemption is subject to automatic repeal on October 2, 2025, unless the Legislature reviews and reenacts it under the Open Government Sunset Review Act

The Legislature justifies the exemption by citing concerns that public release of certificate holder information could lead to theft of weapons or harassment of lawful gun owners exercising their Second Amendment rights

The act takes effect contingent on HB 627 or similar legislation being adopted and becoming law in the same legislative session
