Exempts patients receiving care in hospital critical care units, emergency departments, or hospice services from the nonopioid alternatives discussion requirement

Mandates practitioners discuss advantages and disadvantages of nonopioid alternatives with patients, including assessment of the patient's risk of or history of controlled substance abuse and personal preferences

Requires practitioners to provide patients with an educational pamphlet on nonopioid alternatives and document the alternatives considered in the patient's medical record

Takes effect July 1, 2020
