Pasco County School Board is directed to pay Marcus Button $1,246,215.29 to compensate him for injuries sustained from a September 22, 2006 school bus accident caused by employee negligence.

Pasco County School Board is directed to pay Mark and Robin Button (as parents and natural guardians) $261,148.95 to compensate them for damages sustained by their son from the same accident.

The accident involved a school bus driver failing to yield the right-of-way, causing a collision that resulted in the 16-year-old sustaining facial and skull fractures, brain damage, vision loss, and other permanent injuries requiring lifetime care.

A jury previously apportioned responsibility as 65 percent to the Pasco County School Board, 20 percent to the other driver, and 15 percent to Marcus Button, with trial court judgments totaling $1,670,364.24.

Attorney fees relating to this claim are limited to a maximum of 25 percent of the total amounts awarded under the act.
