Authorizes hospitals with Class II or Class III institutional pharmacies to dispense prescribed medicinal drugs to emergency department patients or inpatients upon discharge without requiring a community pharmacy permit.

Allows dispensing supplies lasting up to 48 hours or through the end of the next business day, whichever is greater, when community pharmacy services are not readily accessible.

Permits supply increases up to 72 hours in areas where a state of emergency has been declared and is in effect under section 252.36.

Allows prescribers to provide patients with additional prescriptions for medicinal drugs beyond the initial dispensing period if warranted.

Effective July 1, 2020.
