Revises the definition of "athletic trainer" to specify education requirements from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education and Board of Certification credentials, relocating scope of practice restrictions to section 468.713.

Amends licensure requirements to allow two pathways: a bachelor's degree from an accredited professional athletic training program plus Board of Certification national examination, or a bachelor's degree with Board of Certification internship completion and current certification.

Requires athletic trainers initially licensed after January 1, 1998 to maintain Board of Certification certification in good standing without lapse as a condition of license renewal.

Establishes that athletic trainers must work within their scope of practice as specified by board rule and may not provide services they lack education, training, or experience to provide.

Requires direct supervision of athletic training students to comply with board rules rather than Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education standards.
