Requires water safety instruction to be included in comprehensive health education curriculum for students in grades kindergarten through 12 in all school districts.

Mandates age-appropriate water safety content including proper use of flotation devices, awareness of water conditions, rip current response, pool supervision, safe water behaviors, pool barriers and fencing, and formal swim lessons.

Requires instruction on avoiding alcohol and substance use with water recreation, CPR for drowning victims, and the proper order of administering emergency aid.

Encourages the State Board of Education to adopt standards and pursue assessment of these water safety instruction requirements.

Takes effect July 1, 2020.
