CS/HB 909 Summary

• Designates the Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee as the official state history museum.

• Renames the Division of Cultural Affairs as the Division of Arts and Culture and designates the Secretary of State as "Florida's Chief Arts and Culture Officer."

• Transfers responsibilities for historical museums and programs from the Division of Cultural Affairs to the Division of Historical Resources, including operation of the Museum of Florida History and museum stores.

• Establishes procedures for museums to terminate loans of unclaimed property through certified mail notice and publication, allowing museums to acquire title to property if lenders do not claim it within 90 days of notice.

• Lowers the inventory threshold for historical artifacts from $1,000 to $500 and allows museums to keep, transfer, sell, or dispose of abandoned property with no loan or donation paperwork.

• Takes effect July 1, 2021.
