CS/HB 1499 Summary

• Changes Pine Tree Water Control District Board governance from landowner election to general election, with three of five board members elected by qualified electors in November 2024 and thereafter.

• First election in November 2024 will elect members for Seat 1 and Seat 2 (4-year terms each) and Seat 3 (2-year term); subsequent elections held every 2 years with all members serving 4-year terms.

• Candidates must be electors and residents of the District; filing fee of 3 percent of annual salary or petition signed by 1 percent of qualified electors required; campaigns follow Chapter 106, Florida Statutes.

• Broward County Supervisor of Elections will administer elections including appointing inspectors/clerks, furnishing ballots, designating polling places, and canvassing returns.

• Referendum election held November 8, 2022 to approve charter amendment; act takes effect upon majority approval by qualified district electors in the referendum.
