Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners is authorized to pay $2.45 million to Nicole Black, personal representative of the Estate of Crystle Marie Galloway, as compensation for negligence that resulted in the death of Crystle Marie Galloway on July 9, 2018.

Paramedics employed by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue failed to take vital signs or perform physical examination of Ms. Galloway when responding to a 911 call on July 4, 2018, despite observing symptoms of crying, headache, and vomiting; they left without transporting her to the hospital.

Ms. Galloway was later transported to the hospital by her mother and was found to have acute subarachnoid hemorrhage secondary to an aneurysm, which required treatment at Tampa General Hospital where she ultimately died.

The $2.45 million payment, combined with a previous $300,000 payment under state liability limits, constitutes the sole compensation for all claims arising from this incident.

Attorney fees are capped at $612,500, lobbying fees at $122,500, and costs or other expenses at $20,906.04; the act takes effect upon becoming law.
