HB 7033 Summary

• Creates the Task Force on Closing the Achievement Gap for Boys within the Department of Education to examine evidence-based strategies and make recommendations regarding professional development, curriculum selection, and academic/behavioral/mental health supports for boys.

• Task force membership includes the Commissioner of Education (chair), two parents appointed by the Governor, five members appointed by the President of the Senate, and five members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to be appointed by July 1, 2021.

• Task force shall convene no later than August 1, 2021, with the Department of Education providing staff support, administrative assistance, and necessary data to aid the task force.

• Task force must submit a report containing recommendations to the Governor, President of the Senate, and Speaker of the House of Representatives by December 1, 2021.

• Task force expires June 30, 2022; members serve without compensation but may receive reimbursement for per diem and travel expenses; meetings may be held by teleconference or electronic means.
