SB 424 – Autonomous Practice by Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (Florida, 2021)

• Removes the restriction limiting autonomous APRN practice to only primary care fields (family medicine, general pediatrics, and general internal medicine), allowing APRNs to practice autonomously within their full specialty scope under s. 464.012(4)
• Eliminates the separate provision specifically authorizing autonomous practice for certified nurse midwives, as they would now be covered under the broader expansion to all APRN specialties
• Retains APRN authority to admit, manage, and discharge patients at health care facilities, and to provide signatures, certifications, or endorsements otherwise required by law from a physician
• Continues to prohibit APRNs from issuing physician certifications for medical marijuana under s. 381.986
