District school boards must require certified school counselors to advise public high school students at least once per academic year, before course selection, on opportunities to gain in-demand labor market skills and how to pursue postsecondary degrees in technical fields

Required advising must cover apprenticeship and preapprenticeship programs, dual enrollment programs, career and professional academies, career-themed courses, local technical center opportunities, internships, and the Career and Technical Education pathway to a standard high school diploma

If insufficient certified school counselors are available, other student personnel services staff may provide the required advising to students

The Department of Education must provide resources to district school boards to assist in offering the required career and technical advising, in addition to existing responsibilities for supporting annual guidance reports

Amends Section 1006.025, Florida Statutes, with a proposed effective date of July 1, 2021
