SB 1658 Summary

• Creates the "Limb Preservation Act" to prohibit persons from sitting on the bow, transom, or gunwale of a power-driven vessel with any portion of their foot or leg over the uppermost outside edge while the vessel is making way

• Prohibits power-driven vessel operators from allowing persons to sit in the manner described above while the vessel is moving

• Defines "making way" as vessel movement relative to the water surface caused by the vessel's machinery and "power-driven vessel" as any vessel propelled by machinery

• Classifies violations as noncriminal infractions with a civil penalty of $50, enforced through county court uniform boating citations

• Takes effect July 1, 2021
