Council members must select a chair from among the membership rather than having the chair appointed, with the chair unable to be an elected member or state agency employee or political subdivision employee.

Maximum council membership increased to 27 members, with a majority required to be persons with disabilities who are assistive technology consumers or family members/guardians.

Council members serve terms of not more than 3 years and may not serve more than two consecutive terms; members retired for at least 1 year (reduced from 3 years) may be reappointed.

Council authority expanded to include fundraising activities as part of its functions.

Act takes effect July 1, 2022.
