Requires agencies that employ law enforcement officers to maintain current and valid motor vehicle insurance with bodily injury, death, and property damage liability coverage when officers are authorized to travel to their residence or other agency assignments in official law enforcement vehicles.

Insurance coverage is not required if the law enforcement officer makes a distinct deviation for a nonessential personal errand unless a collective bargaining agreement permits such deviation, or if the officer acts in bad faith or with malicious purpose or exhibits wanton and willful disregard of human rights, safety, or property.

Any lawsuits or actions against employing agencies for damages arising from tort under this section are subject to the liability limitations provided in Florida Statute section 768.28(5).

Insurance requirements may be met through any method authorized by Florida Statute section 768.28(16).

The act takes effect July 1, 2022.
