Beginning July 1, 2022, employing agency heads may elect to substitute verifiable, related work experience for postsecondary educational requirements if the applicant is otherwise qualified for the position.

Work experience cannot substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration established by the employing agency for the position.

Employing agencies that elect to allow work experience substitution must include notice of this authorization in all position advertisements along with a description of acceptable work experience equivalencies.

This section does not override state and federal equal opportunity employment laws and regulations.

"Employing agency" is defined as any state, county, municipal, or political subdivision agency (including special districts) authorized to employ personnel.
