HB 6077 Summary

• Removes requirements for Florida College System institutions and state universities to conduct annual assessments of intellectual freedom and viewpoint diversity on campus.

• Eliminates prohibitions that prevented the State Board of Education and Board of Governors from shielding students, faculty, and staff from free speech and certain ideas or opinions.

• Removes authorization allowing students to record video or audio of class lectures for personal educational use, institutional complaints, or legal proceedings.

• Eliminates the cause of action that allowed persons injured by violations of free speech provisions to bring lawsuits against higher education institutions or individuals who improperly published classroom recordings.

• Takes effect July 1, 2022.
