Appropriates $1.75 million from the General Revenue Fund to compensate the Estate of Danielle Maudsley for her death resulting from alleged negligence by Trooper Daniel Cole and the Florida Highway Patrol

Danielle Maudsley, age 20, was arrested for nonviolent traffic infractions on September 19, 2011; while handcuffed and attempting to flee, she was tased by Trooper Cole, causing her to fall and suffer traumatic brain injury, leaving her in a vegetative state until her death on September 15, 2013

A May 2015 settlement agreement acknowledged that a jury could have reasonably awarded $1.95 million; the Division of Risk Management already paid $200,000 under statutory liability limits, leaving $1.75 million outstanding

Payment will be reduced by any outstanding Medicaid liens related to Maudsley's medical expenses and care

Attorney fees are capped at 25 percent of the appropriated amount, and this payment represents sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from the incident
