South Broward Hospital District is authorized to pay $795,000 to Latricia and Jerald Mitchell (individually and as legal guardians of Jamiyah Mitchell) as compensation for injuries sustained due to hospital negligence.

Payment compensates for injuries resulting from alleged negligence in monitoring and care during Latricia Mitchell's October 8, 2008 hospital visit, which resulted in her daughter Jamiyah suffering a stroke, seizures, and permanent neurological disabilities.

The $795,000 payment, combined with the $200,000 already paid under Florida's statutory liability limits, constitutes the sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from this incident.

Attorney fees related to this claim are capped at 25 percent of the $795,000 award.

The act takes effect upon becoming law.
