Beginning July 1, 2022, agency heads may substitute verifiable, related work experience for postsecondary educational requirements if the applicant is otherwise qualified for the position.

Work experience cannot substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration for the position.

Agencies electing to allow work experience substitution must include notice and a description of acceptable work experience equivalencies in all job advertisements for that position.

The law applies to state agencies and units of government including counties, municipalities, political subdivisions, and special districts.

This law does not abridge state and federal equal opportunity employment laws and regulations.
