Personal identifying information in applications submitted to the Department of State for certification as a victim of Florida reform school abuse is exempt from public records requirements under s. 119.07(1), Florida Statutes, and s. 24(a), Article I of the State Constitution.

The exemption applies to applications filed under the Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys and Okeechobee School Abuse Victim Certification Act.

The exemption is subject to the Open Government Sunset Review Act and will automatically repeal on December 31, 2024, unless reenacted by the Legislature.

The Legislature finds that releasing personal identifying information could subject reform school abuse victims to further trauma and that protecting this information encourages victims to come forward and seek redress.

The act's effective date is contingent on HB 629 or similar legislation being adopted in the same legislative session and becoming law.
