HB 1531 Summary

• Creates the Transition Success Network, a multiagency collaborative led by the Agency for Persons with Disabilities to support young adults with developmental disabilities transitioning from K-12 education to postsecondary opportunities and employment.

• Required network participants include the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Division of Career and Adult Education, school districts, CareerSource Florida, and the Able Trust, with optional participation from nonprofits, chambers of commerce, and service providers.

• Network shall conduct an initial statewide needs assessment and biennial local assessments to identify service gaps and improve accessibility to programs in the least restrictive manner possible.

• Requires a Transition Success Network member to participate in individual education plan (IEP) meetings for students with disabilities upon request by the student or parent to provide additional assistance based on student needs and goals.

• Takes effect July 1, 2023.
