HB 5303 Summary

• Expands the Biomedical Research Trust Fund to support the James and Esther King Biomedical Research Program, Casey DeSantis Cancer Research Program, William G. "Bill" Bankhead Jr. and David Coley Cancer Research Program, and other cancer research initiatives as appropriated by the Legislature.

• Authorizes $37,771,257 from Casey DeSantis Cancer Research Program appropriations to be excluded from annual allocation calculations and distributed to participating cancer centers in proportion to the allocation fraction.

• Requires statewide cancer statistics reports to include breast cancer mortality data along with lung, pancreatic, sarcoma, melanoma, leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, and brain cancers.

• Removes language regarding endowment awards for a specific program under the William G. "Bill" Bankhead Jr. and David Coley Cancer Research Program while maintaining reporting requirements for endowed research chairs.

• Effective date: July 1, 2023.
