St. Johns County Sheriff's Office authorized to pay Julia Perez $15 million (or alternative amount not exceeding $15 million if parties agree) for injuries sustained in April 7, 2019 motorcycle collision caused by Deputy Brandon Hetzler's negligence.

Perez suffered severe injuries including multiple fractures, organ damage, punctured lung, cardiopulmonary arrest, 3 months unconsciousness, 7 months bedridding, and permanent kidney failure requiring lifelong dialysis or transplant.

Past medical bills and liens total $3,863,108.09; future medical care estimated between $3,318,811.56 and $4,077,923.57 over 30-year life expectancy; loss of earning capacity estimated at $282,110.

Payment waives all state lien interests resulting from Perez's treatment and care related to the accident; attorney fees capped at 25 percent of total award.

Act takes effect upon becoming law and provides sole compensation for all present and future claims arising from the incident.
