Candidates for district school board seats advance to the general election if no more than two candidates qualify, without holding a primary election.

A primary election is held if more than two candidates qualify for a district school board seat.

The two candidates receiving the highest number of votes in the primary election advance to the general election, regardless of whether either candidate receives a majority of votes cast.

If more than two candidates tie for the highest or second-highest vote totals in the primary, all tied candidates advance to the general election ballot.

The act takes effect July 1, 2023.
