SB 1642 Summary

• Requires the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) to adopt bylaws establishing comprehensive health care service requirements for student athletes in member schools.

• Mandates the FHSAA consult with its Sports Medicine Advisory Committee when developing these health care bylaws.

• Requires member schools, when practicable, to hire or contract with qualified health care providers to deliver services to student athletes participating in collision and contact sports.

• Requires member schools to establish legally compliant procedures for collecting, reviewing, and storing student athlete health information, including preparticipation screenings and written medical clearance to return.

• Effective date: July 1, 2023.
