Cited as the "Safeguarding American Families Everywhere (SAFE) Act," the bill allows motor vehicle registration applicants to voluntarily indicate that they or their child/ward have been diagnosed with specified disabilities or disorders, including autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, Alzheimer's disease, traumatic brain injury, PTSD, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, deafness, blindness, or other mentally or physically limiting disorders

Requires the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to add a "SAFE" designation to the motor vehicle record when an applicant indicates a qualifying diagnosis, intended to alert law enforcement and first responders during traffic stops or emergencies

Prohibits the department from including personal identifying information or specific diagnoses in the motor vehicle record — only the generic "SAFE" flag may appear

Motor vehicle owners or co-owners may add or remove the "SAFE" designation from their registration at any time

Effective date is October 1, 2024
