A municipal government meeting was held on December 8, 1924, in the Town of Sebastian (formerly part of St. Lucie County) with 82 of 105 registered voters in attendance.

The meeting resulted in a majority vote to organize a municipal government named the "Town of Sebastian."

The Town of Sebastian was reincorporated as the "City of Sebastian" in 1925 by Chapter 11155 of the Laws of Florida.

The City of Sebastian currently has 26,405 residents and is led by Mayor Ed Dodd, Vice Mayor Kelly Dixon, and Council Members Fred Jones, Christopher Nunn, and Bob McPartlan.

The House of Representatives acknowledges the 100th anniversary celebration of the City of Sebastian, commemorated on December 8, 2024.
