Safeguarding American Families Everywhere (SAFE) Act – FL SB 288

• Motor vehicle registration applications in Florida must include an option for applicants to voluntarily indicate that they or their child/ward has been diagnosed with specific disabilities or disorders, including autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, Alzheimer's disease, traumatic brain injury, PTSD, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, deafness, blindness, or other mentally or physically limiting disorders

• When an applicant indicates a qualifying diagnosis, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles must add the designation "SAFE" to the motor vehicle record, intended to alert law enforcement and first responders during traffic stops or emergencies

• The motor vehicle record may not include the specific diagnosis or personal identifying information of the person with the diagnosed condition, protecting the individual's medical privacy

• Vehicle owners or co-owners may update their registration to add or remove the "SAFE" designation at any time

• The act has an effective date of October 1, 2024
