SB 610 – Domestic Violence Investigations ("Gabby Petito Act")

• Requires law enforcement officers to complete a lethality assessment form evaluating the likelihood of serious injury or death when investigating alleged incidents of domestic violence
• Directs the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to approve a statewide, evidence-based lethality assessment form that has been reviewed and approved by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women
• Requires FDLE to consult with the Department of Children and Families, at least one domestic violence advocacy organization, the Florida Sheriffs Association, and the Florida Police Chiefs Association to develop policies, procedures, training, and best practices for implementing and using the form
• Prohibits law enforcement officers from completing the lethality assessment form with a victim unless they have first received training on the relevant policies and procedures
• Effective date of July 1, 2024
