CS for SB 1372 – Educator Preparation Programs

• Prohibits teacher preparation programs, postsecondary educator preparation institutes, professional learning certification programs, and school leader preparation programs from distorting significant historical events or including curriculum that teaches identity politics or is based on theories that systemic racism, sexism, oppression, and privilege are inherent in U.S. institutions.

• Bars instruction in all covered programs that violates Florida's existing anti-discrimination statute (s. 1000.05) or teaches that U.S. institutions were created to maintain social, political, and economic inequities.

• Requires all covered educator preparation programs to afford candidates the opportunity to think critically, achieve mastery of academic content, learn instructional strategies, and demonstrate competence.

• Applies the same content restrictions and candidate opportunity requirements uniformly across four categories of programs by amending sections 1004.04, 1004.85, 1012.56, and 1012.562 of Florida Statutes.

• Effective date is July 1, 2024.
